I almost started laughing out loud - did my son seriously think a sheet could get his laundry clean? 

It seemed impossible to say the least, but Jake insisted these little sheets could replace my giant liquid detergent jug. 

When I saw the size of that package compared to what I'd been buying, I was completely speechless. That tiny package contained 60 loads of laundry – the same as my heavy jug – but it fit in his desk drawer!

Jake's roommate had a whole semester's worth of detergent stored in a space smaller than a shoebox. 

I've been doing laundry for over 20 years. I haul those heavy jugs from the store to my car, from my car to my house, and then find space to store them in my already-crowded laundry room – and to think that something this small and light could do the same job was mind-blowing. 

So I asked Jake how these sheets actually work, and he said: 

"Mom, think about it – why do we need to pay for and carry around all that water? These sheets are just the actual cleaning ingredients without all the filler. Plus, no plastic jugs ending up in landfills." 

Hmm, so it's not only space-saving and more concentrated, but it's also better for the environment. Interesting. 

But I was still skeptical: "This can't possibly clean your muddy football jerseys!" 

Jake laughed and showed me his laundry basket – everything was spotless, fresh-smelling, and stain-free. 

Then he said something that really surprised me: "Mom, did you know traditional liquid detergent has chemicals that can get into your bloodstream through your clothes?" 

I had no idea what he was talking about, so he showed me an article on his phone about optical brighteners and something called 1,4-dioxane that's in many liquid detergents – apparently it's linked to cancer but companies don't have to put it on the label!
